The beautiful marble clock located at the junction of Beech and Ash Streets honours the 292 local men who served during the first world war, including the 38 fallen. It is a memorial of particular significance as it is one of the few clock type war memorials in Australia and the only one of its style in Queensland.
It was erected in 1924 and unveiled by the then Governor of Queensland, Sir Matthew Nathan. The clock was designed and made by A.L. Petrie, monumental masons of Toowong, Brisbane, out of marble from Ulam near Gladstone and cost £524.
